Scissor-tailed Flycatcher – Tyrannus forficatus

A beautiful bird with a very long tail, making it about 33 cm long. It is a common bird in the North East of Costa Rica during winter months. Common to Costa Rica but downright exotic to us. This one just visited the open area next to our house. The pictures were taken through our telescope with a clipped-on iPhone 4S.

  1. Dear Frank, wonderful photos! I am sure you are having lots of fun. The pictures have a bit too much of chromatic aberration due to lens deformation. Some software like Lightroom can correct for that… enjoy!

    1. Dear Susana, thank you for the tip! I looked it up and it is a bit pricey to me. Also I don’t like the fact that I will be stuck with Adobe’s cloud for it to work, and since it is a professional tool I expect a steep learning curve. Do you know of any alternatives that do not have these qualities but still can remove the chromatic aberration? Would you recommend for example GIMP or Darktable?
